Like all large industrial machinery, jaw action crushers require consistent maintenance to keep them in good working order. Maintenance can be easy to overlook and there can be some catastrophic implications if it isn’t prioritised – from downturns in production to compromised performance.

- Make sure that that the person operating the crusher is properly trained on the brand of machinery they are using, i.e. Red Rhino. It is important that the operator knows how to use the machine and fully understands its capabilities. They should maintain a constant, steady and uninterrupted flow of material through the machine to increase productivity.
- Inspect the product thoroughly before adding to the crusher. Remove any non-crushable contamination such as wood, rebar or rubbish because this will prevent bridging and reduce the chances of jaw blockage.
- Make sure you are carrying out pre-start daily maintenance. Check oil and water levels, inspect the air cleaner and check for material build up – especially around conveyor belts. This will minimise unnecessary breakdowns and down time.
- Think about implementing maintenance plans that are preventative, predictive, reactive, and scheduled. This will ensure that your crusher is working as efficiently as possible.
- Visually inspect the machine and check for any external oil leaks – this will ensure peak performance and prevent loss in production. Monitor the condition of critical components, inspect the jaws for wear and check the conveyor for alignment, tension, and wear.
